Paws on the Block: A Life-Changing Foster Program
Foothill Dog Rescue is proud to introduce Paws on the Block, an innovative collaborative foster
program in partnership with Folsom State Prison. This initiative pairs rescue dogs with
incarcerated individuals, offering a second chance for both.
Through specialized training, participants learn to care for and train foster dogs, gaining
responsibility, empathy, and valuable life skills. Over a 4-8 week period, dogs receive
socialization and basic obedience training, improving their chances of adoption.
A Win-Win Impact:
✅ For the dogs: Constant care, training, and preparation for loving homes.
✅ For the inmates: Personal growth, purpose, and skill development.
“And one thing I know about dogs, they don’t judge. Doesn’t matter the color of my skin, how
tall, short or what I did in the past. And it’s a reminder that despite my past … I still matter” says
participant, Moises Huerta (as cited in Gold Country Media, Sperandeo, 2024)
